Angry Flash font problems...

Any Flash experts out there?

I just built a page with a small Flash Nav menu. It looks just like I intend it to on my local machine but gets messed up after uploading to the web server (see http://www.davidkarns.com).

The menu uses a small text file to configure the parameters of the menu .swf for each page.

Any ideas??? Thanks in advance.

What version of Flash?

I assume you are using dynamic text boxes to load the text files. Make sure you select the embed font, and choose what you want to embed.

Also flash kind of sucks with presenting anti-aliased text and if the text looks bad with aliasing (which is what it looks like you have), then the results are unpleasant. Sometimes you need to choose a few fonts and see how they look with anti-aliasing turned off.

Hmm...not sure what version was used to create the SWF and I have been unable to open it to see how it's built. I downloaded the nav menu and customized the colors and content via the config file.

Here is where I got the menu and how it should look (other than colors and width):

If you'd like you can download a zip file here:
http://www.davidkarns.com/flashmenufiles.zip

It contains the three files in question that I'm using on the page I created.

On top of font problem is a problem where it ignores the target statement. Everything opens in a new window for me.

It all works fine when I load the index page in a browser from a local directory.

Thanks for your response!
Dan

Unfortunately No. They didn't provide one. I'll e-mail them and ask for it but I won't hold my breath.

If you purchased it you should have been given a .fla file as well so you can make modifications. As well as any fonts they used that are not standard.

If they don't give you these, then they should help you out in this situation since the product you purchased from them is not working the way it should.

If you can get a .fla I can take a look at it.

Thanks for the reply. I've e-mailed them for either the .fla or a refund.

I've tried using the font they use in their demo (tahoma) and get the same results. I'd like to use verdana. I would think these are fairly standard fonts.

What kills me is that the problem only shows up when being served up by web server. When I open up the index file locally, it looks great. I use the same computer to view each time and get the different results.

Thanks again!
Dan

Is the size the same? Raw .swf files are expandable so make sure you are viewing the same dimensions as the web. You might possibly be displaying it smaller in your page, which could bonk the fonts up.
