I've been having a problem sending mail out with outlook; it recieves mail just fine but it won't send mail out.
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'dan@ice-on-fire.net', Server: 'mail.ice-on-fire.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
that's the message i get. i've looked up the error number but nothing i found helped...
Actually, I just had this problem.
I talked to my ISP that I pay a ton of money for about this. There were a bunch of changes on some ISP servers all about Port 25. Spam is sent on that server, and well, outgoing mail I guess is considered part of the problem. I just pasted my ISP smtp stuff in the outgoing mail server place and unchecked the box for server authentication and it worked.
I hope this makes sense. Let me know if you need help!

To clarify Sara's point,
Some ISPs have been blocking port 25 from sending emails. They do this so they can limit the amount of spam being sent and all emails will then be sent from their servers. There is no spam being sent from our servers, nor will there be. Here is a list of ISPs and blocking port 25:

I'm having the same problem. Except I receive a popup notification that says "You do not have any accounts configured to send mail."
I still don't understand what you mean by ISP stmp stuff though. Does that mean that you we put our ISP address in the outgoing mail server field? Or that we should change the outgoing server port number?
Or does my problem require a different solution? I've checked my email's account properties over and over and cannot find what's wrong.
Hi,
If you use your ISP sending SMTP address, it should work. You did set up the email addresses already, correct?

Me and my customers are having some email issues simply checking our email....not sending. Not all of the accounts are affected, but some are.......I had already sent in a ticket on this but it's "good" (in a way) to see that it's not just me and my customers......but that the email issue may be more widespread (for "my" sake)......
Hope it gets resolved soon.....

the solution is that, since my ISP has blocked the use of that port, I must use my ISP's account to send mail...
ie: i have the account dnewbury so i use my cox account and password to send mail using THAT account; though it still appears that I sent it through my IH account.

I had the same problems you folks were having, so I did the same thing Sara did, and posted my mail.(isp).net smtp server in all of my mail accounts, authenticated it with my isp email account (though that probably is not necessary) and it all worked beautifully. Try that, and then you might want to call your ISP to see if they're blocking port 25 (they probably are) so maybe you can change the port. Hope this helps as another success story!

What if this problem occurs randomly? For example most of the time it sends, but other times the error of unable to connect to server happens.
This wouldn't mean the ISP is blocking port 25 would it?

Hmm, probably not, although you might want to try just in case? Do you have a firewall set up that might be preventing access? Or maybe a virus scanner that scans emails? Just a thought, although i don't consider myself very knowledgeable about these things.
