My son has a start-up company and had someone build him a web site in ASP. It was not working right and we went to elance, found what we thought was a web design firm to help us only to find it was a guy farming out the work to a programmer that he probably found on eLance too.

So we contracted with them to fix the site, convert it to PHP, put some MySQL functions on the site, etc. We got a quote to do the entire job which seemed to move forward. Then it started...the programmer who was probably getting crap from the guy we hired was complaining she wasn't getting enough for the work. He claimed he was only making a couple of hundred on the deal. After one week it happened, the site was almost done, but now we got back ended. You know the routine...you asked us to do more then we agreed to do. Of course nothing was detailed in writing other then some emails. I have not changed the password on my site so they won't have access and still owe them 50% of the original agreed costs. They wanted another 30% on top of what I thought a very generous number from us.

So now I will have a problem with this web site. I can only do HTML myself and can make a site look nice, but I am lost with PHP. I took a look at the pages and I only see code, but all of the images that were there aren't showing in Dreamweaver. How do I change them or revise copy. Is the information on the server?

I will need help making sure what they did works properly and do do some additional work as needed. Is there any one out there looking for some freelance work in this regard?

We have a very small budget, but my son's company has great potential to generate business with some leading Hedge Fund people and I think there will be a pot of gold later down the road.

I need someone who is honest, hungry as we are and willing to work with us so we can get this off the ground. Don't worry you won't be paid in stock options :-)

You can see what has been done to date at:

http://ferrari.insiderhosting.com/~hedgeco/

We are not live yet. The original site is at: http://hedgeco.net

Hope this board will thrive and help all of us. Good Luck Steve and all the other guys and gals at Insider Hosting.

Hello lenrapp,

I am a PHP programmer, if you send me some further details I will take a look for you. I would assume that you can not see the images because they are coded in with the PHP, therefore rendering DWs code view useless.

What exactly was the PHP used for on this site? The type of work I have done is online booking systems, editable site content, contact forms, search facilities, shopping carts, web apps like guestbooks, poll systems e.t.c.

I can supply references and examples of my work. You can email at peterhawkes@btopenworld.com , I live in the UK BTW. I can also chat with you on Instant Message if we set up a time.

My fees are low compared to others and you can be sure I do all the work myself. Payment upon completion of project. I am also a DW UD and DW MX user, so where possible I can make the site editable in that.

The site looks very nice BTW, I am sure I can help you sort out your current problems.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi and thanks for answering my call for help:)

Here is some more information on this site. It is a company that runs educational seminars which tries to introduce high net worth clients (a fancy way of saying rich folks) to meet with various Hedge Fund managers.

The site explains what a Hedge Fund is, but basically it is a type of mutual fund that can do all the crazy stuff like selling stocks short, writing covered calls and so forth without much Federal Regulation. In order for an investor to even invest in a Hedge Fund he must have at least a million dollars to qualify.

What my son's company does is run seminars, conferences etc. to bring these people together. Almost like a dating service. The make their money by charging the fund managers for their participation and also by getting a "finders fee" if any money is invested as a result of the introductions.

He is moving from New York to Florida with his partner in 2 weeks with a very small amount of money to seed the company and my heart and prayers are with him. They don't have much money, but the web site is what they have to show to the public and it is very important for them to have it functional.

They would like to charge Hedge Funds a participation fee to be part of the web site. The funds would be able to gain access to their accounts, go in and make the changes in their performance for the month and even change the copy on their web page. This is not set up to do that. Of course right now their are only 4 or 5 members so we are not dealing with a huge database.

Then their is a sign-up form for the visitor interested in finding out more about the individual funds. They must qualify to even get inside the site so they have to answer some questions about their net worth. This is therefore on a SSL with Insider Hosting.

I would also like to include some little Quicktime files at the profiles of each fund manager and I have video taped interviews with some so I can include a short presentation from each.

If you send me your email address I can have my son also fill you in on some of the other items the site includes.

Now for what I want to do. I am a photographer and a small web designer and I work well in Photoshop and not too bad in Dreamweaver, but learing about the new Dreamweaver MX. I have downloaded a copy for a trial run and like it. I also want to learn about Flash so I am trying to get through that as well.

I want to be the main contact on the site and try to go in as I have to clean up copy, photos, etc. Basically to maintain the site.

We are hoping that this site will serve as a sample of what HedgeCo can do for some of its clients. We would like to be able to build web sites or add functions to some web sites that our clients are now operating. We would like to do their marketing materials too. Our goal is to offer a package of services we can provide them with to help them market their funds.

As you know most start ups don't have money, especially during these very hard times, but I feel my son and his partner are on the right track and can succeed so I am working free of any charge to help them in this regard.

Please email me at: len@mtigrp.com

I hope this gives you a better idea of what we need to do. As I said it is all done from what I can see now, but I am looking out to the future and would like to be able to see the web pages that don't need to be as synamic so I can work on them.

By the way the original site written in ASP can be seen at: http://hedgeco.net
