View Full Version : I'm lost - how do I move a WHOLE subdirectory?

Hey all - I hope everyone's having a good week here!
I've been testing have PostNuke installation that resides in an subfolder of my base directory named HTML (public_html/html) =don't ask, it seemed easier at the time = and I'd like to move all the files in there into my base directory so I don't have to use a redirect like I'm using now.
Is there any easy way to do this? I know complete folders can be moved using CPANEL, but I want to lose the HTML folder itself and just move all the files WITHIN the folder to my base directory.
Oh, and if it is possible - do you think it'll screw up my PN install?
Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
I know of one user who has done this successfully I believe. He is an active poster here, so I will point him to this thread when he jumps online :)

Can't you simply copy the files (not move them) to where you want them, change the global_config.php file (or whatever PN calls it nowadays) and then test it? If it works, then you can delete your old directory and things should be okay.......
There's only a file or two dealing with config and paths...you may have to get down and dirty and edit that file if you don't want to simply do another install....... just a thought.....

Even so, if you lose the entire install of PN, the data itself isn't lost as it's nicely saved into a MySQL database, which is totally seperate from the rest of the files.
I'm not quite sure about this, but I wouldn't be surprised that if you moved your entire install of PN you will not have to touch anything as it may detect the new paths. Even if you do have to do something, you might only have to go into a single file, or login to the control panel on PN to fix a few path or two. (I had to do this with Newspro when I moved from one hosting places to another, it took me about two minutes)

Thanks for the advice guys.
I did think about moving everything with FTP SmackDaddy, but with the modules etc I've got installed that might take a little while and I'm always looking for a quicker way to do things.
I have a feeling you're right about things there Chris, but I'm really considering just doing a fresh install since I've been messing around with so many modules and areas of the site lately.
Here's another quick question - does anyone know how to tell what version of a script the autoinstall within cPanel is installing? I've installed a few scripts this way quite easily, but have stayed away from PN because it doesn't mention the version it's installing.
Thanks again fellas - and have a good day!
Steve
