I'm in the process of creating a book blog. I'm going to call it bookzilla. I'm trying to find a graphic of a monster, preferably a lizardy type fellow, reading a book. I looked through clipart.com but didn't find anything that I liked. Does anyone know of a good place to look? If not, could anyone make something like that for me. I'd be willing to pay a few dollars. The url is here: Bookzilla (http://www.aaronjen.org/blog/books/) and I want the guy to go at the top of the right hand column. Email me if you want to talk about creating one and how many $$ you might want for such a job. Thanks!

you should check out http://www.designoutpost.com
They run design contests for cash, including logo's, templates, headers, and elements.
They do some really good work too.

Great idea, geesh. Thanks. Only thing is, I have no idea how much to offer for such a thing. Any suggestions?

check out this page: http://www.designoutpost.com/post.htm
They suggest a starting price of $50, and they charge a fee of 10%.
They have alot of great designers, you might want to check out the forums, and some of their ongoing contests for logo design, before you decide if it's for you or not.
Good luck!

Hey Aaron,
I made a very fast and simple sketch.
Was this anything like what you were thinking of (of course he'd have entire arms and, maybe even an entire body).

PS
I really suck at drawing dragons/lizards, first time I've made a face that somewhat seems to work.
Also when I imagined it I thought of a not so large really fat lizard with the book squeezed up against its nose.
Also there are some sketches from the other side of the paper shining through there hehe ;)

Yeah, something like that is exactly what I was imagining. I actually found this guy: http://www.tyedart.com/dragons.htm who I might just hire to do the work for me. He'll let me pay in increments (state job + wife at home + new baby = poor) and he seems to do good work and he's very friendly and helpful. That doesn't mean you should stop skething though... =)

Ah, I just came to think of a guy who is really really great at drawing this,
but I think he's a professional animator now (at least he was going to school learning animation).
So he'd probably take a lot of payment,
but that guy you linked to there was great at cartoony dragons... ;)

Yay I found it,
love this character... ;)
EDIT:
Click the name Chad Costen at the top to see all the pics he has put up on elfwood.
BTW, I am better at drawing things I can see than things I have to make up (aren't we all).
But check out the Broccoli here,
and you've seen the chickensoft logo I've made as well,
both of them have later been edited using vectors and airbrushing (computer simulated airbrushing like in GIMP and PhotoShop) for coloring though ;)

Also, I don't believe in getting payed, hehe,
that's why I make freeware,
which reminds me, I have to work on the site and stuff all easter,
and I guess I should study at least in part for the finals (got one this friday, and 3 or 4 the two weeks after easter (Can't wait for the german finals, lol, thank God I quit latin in time to avoid the latin finals)) ;)

you've got a great concept at designoutpost, Palmer. I think that sites like yours are the future of freelancing. You've got a bunch of great artists there too!
