I just did a backup of my page, and the transfer speed averaged at 186KB/s, with a top at 272KB/s :D
Gotta love that...

That was all I had to say today

I've gotten 600+KB/sec before, and it stayed that way for the duration of the download. (63 megs)

For some reason now it's a little slower at around 450 KB/sec. Doesn't bother me, that fast enough for viewing the web page it self.

WOW! That's more than extremely good! (I guess my internet connection was the bottle-neck...)

Wow! Do you guys have DSL or a Cable connection? I use a dialup so my numbers are never that good.

Yeah, I got Time Warner Roadrunner cable, and I love it. It sure beats the Qwest DSL I used to have, in every way imaginable... :D

Chris, what are you on, a University OC-48 connection?

I have 1500k DSL and love it. Unfortunately, I will be moving in 2 months and get Roadrunner......I am not a cable fanatic....especially when they will soon be putting caps on bandwidth usage and will force people to get additional IP addresses if they have more than one PC connected. I use a router/gateway, but they can still identify multiple PC usage.....*sigh*

Anyways, I have downloaded as high as 190kbps from IH....

Cable. "YEAH RIGHT!" you cry. I said that SAME thing when I saw the transfer status window. I still have my doubts about it really being that fast, but it's really about right since I've moved 60 megs off of the servers in a little over a minute.

I hate the idea of cable providers putting caps on bandwidth. It's said that 90% of all bandwidth that is used on broadband networks is used by 10% of all users. It can stay that way. After all, it's because the other people either don't know about downloading large files, or they're more than happy just to be able to check their email and "chat" with their friends faster.

In the long run as people become more aware of downloading large files (Napster no longer works that well) the ISPs that cap bandwidth will run into big problems with people moving to ones that DON'T cap.

As soon as my ISP does stuff like that, I'm done with them. They make well more than enough money to support their network as it is, and could even afford to provide their users with more bandwidth. It's simply money working at it's best. (Note how the gas prices keep going up. There is no need for it. The big guys just want more money because they can get more money. It's very similar to this case, I believe.)

I agree with you Chris. I have several friends in Canada who are already experiencing a cable ISP who has initiated a "bandwidth usage pricing tier system"......It's like $70 for 10GB/mo transfer.....

I generally use that up in 2 weeks or less........so, if that's where Roadrunner, Cox, etc go.....either I will find a bandwidth free host or pay the high premium......my wife and I homeschool, and I have 5 PCs connected to our home network.......and the bulk of the downloading is done by me (I will neither confirm or deny the existance of authorized/unauthorized material on my computer -- plead the 5th! :D )......

10GB transfer for a month......give me a break.....what's the use in having broadband if the 10% are going to be "capped"? Greedy broadband companies!!!!!!

well, i can pull around 300k at times, it depends on the time of day...

but what really makes me disgruntled is the fact that if my house was around 500 feet closer to the phone company, i could purchase ADSL and haul a couple megs a second..

10 gigs a month for 70 dollars. What the heck... do they think that everyone only checks their email and then browses some stupid band websites? 10 gigs would last me about 2 days, maybe a little longer.

Ugh. The strange things that money can do to people. It's sick.

I'm a little confused here... Since the following is the normal way to refer to transfer speeds, I assume that it is what you guys meant?
1024k or 1024kbps or 1024 kilobits/s = 128K or 128KBps or 128KB/s or 128kilobytes/s

Anyways, the server speeds rule!
