Should we let unregistered users post in this forum? What do you think about that idea .....

I would say not.
The sign up precedure is not that daunting, and they need not reveal any information in their profile that they don't wish to.

I agree, if they really want to ask a question they'll register. You're just kind of setting yourself up for some unsavory messages if you allow non-registered postings.

Just my opinion though :D

its been my exp that unregistered users end up being spammers of some sort. make them register, like the others said, they dont have to reveal anything they dont want to....

Yes, but your opinion is very important to us.

Mort,
Your insight is greatly appreciated as always. :)

Ed,
I agree with you.

I'm going to say yes. I know I do not like to sign up for forums if there is a chance I will only be there a couple of times...

Only this forum, though.

If people spam, the company that they're spamming for will get a taste of their own medicine from me. :)

Plus, If you're worried about people posting like a million messages, just turn the rate limit up to like sixty seconds. (If it's not at that already)

Is there a way people can unregister themsevles from the forum? That way if someone feels the way Harmonic does, about only being there a few times, they can unregister themsevles thereby removing themsevles from the database. This way there is "no risk" involved by giving their email address in the registration process.

Just a thought.

Even registered members spam :o  :D

But, no its not a good idea, because you had a problem with people sending ads to your members via PM's, now you'll get companies spraying their offers on your forum, which is worse.

Hey Eric,
Thanks for the feedback, as there is no way to unregister yourself from the forum, however we don't send any emails to registered forum members, we send them to our registered clients :) I think we'll keep the system as is.

There is a quote button right next to the post on the lower right hand side. Next to the edit button.

I say let unregistered members post questions in this forum. I know that if I had just one question, or wanted to find out a little more about a prospective hosting company, I would ask at the forum, but I might not if I had to go through the registration process for just that one question.

Enable it for a trial period of a couple of weeks or something and if it's not working, disable it again.

i like Aaron's idea....just give the posting right in one forum only.

I agree with Aaron as well.

There should be an area that people can go and ask questions before they sign up for a service. Whether it's to find out about current clients or ask a question about PHP, MySQL or whatever.

:)

S, thank you for asking for our imput, once again that proves that IH is totally in a class by itself! And that reflects not only on the staff at IH, but the clients as well.
