Hi!

I was wondering if anyone knows of reliable web resources for taking payments online for an online store of sorts. Or even anything- like payment for downloading e-books etc.

I have checked out yahoo store, and of course paypal (which I find all the issues surrounding them lately not very appealing...) , I would consider trying to do it myself BUT- not sure if I can learn that very well- though I am sure STEVEN is CONVINCED I can do it :D )

Anyway- In what I have seen- none of the options appear very stable. Lots of competitors to paypal have already gone out of business. But I find going through something like yahoo to be very cost ineffective. Their starting fees (when you tally it up and the fact they secure your credit card upfront etc..) would amount to alot each month even if you only sold 10 or so items.

So- any ideas? I am NOT a developer- and know ZIPPO about scripts of any sort. So- there you go! But I would like some ideas of reliable people. Thanks a bunch.

what issues about paypal? paypal was recently bought out by ebay which gives them a little bit more credibility for me. just a thought, i'm not using them or any solution like this yet.

www.paysystems.com www.2checkout.com and what about getting a Merchant account and using someone like www.secpay.com to interface to your bank.

eBays 'Bill Point' system has screwed many eBayers lately, transactions going missing but people being billed. No recored of these transactions in the control panel. Sarcastic emails when you complain, no response to emails. PayPal has a bad name, why should it be any better now ebay own it?

I closed my PayPal account last week.

Pete :)

Ditto Pete. That is EXACTLY what has been happening. Though I personally do not run alot of money through paypal- thousands do - and get really wrecked by their brush off variety of customer service (an approach they readily admit to btw).

Meanwhile- the above names you offered dont strike a bell with me as having negative reviews... but at least a half dozen other services - some directly modeling the paypal business... DO have many negative reviews. For this reason- I wanted to get input on others more knowledgeable than myself who have direct experience with other companies.

I am not sure I am geared for merchant account- but - will look more into it- was hoping for simpler solution for the moment.
Thanks Pete.

Hi slacker member!

Well- Pete pretty well painted the current paypal theme and frankly- the ebay acquisition complicates the potential chaos more than it already is over there....

Also- anytime there is a system so publically available as paypal... also available internationally. Well- unless you are a company with very high integrity and constant monitoring of your system- then expect ALOT of hacks. Paypal denies their hundreds of hacks but WAY too many reputable people can and have proved it. Not to knock them- I just have been looking through their stuff a long time and I DO have a paypal account that I barely use. BUT- it concerns me when such blatant disregard is clearly displayed for the general public. I suppose it is the attitude they have that bugs me. People with viable business on the paypal system have lost it all- through no errors on their own part. My advice is to be really cautious about running any big business on paypal. You know- you can typel paypal in google and the first URL is paypal.com- then the next DOZEN or more are "paypalwarning.com" "Paypalsucks.com" etc. etc.... How curious to me that thousands of people would take ALL THAT TIME to police paypal if there werent a shred of truth to the negative claims about them. My 2 cents and hope that helped.
Blessings-
