I used to have my site hosted at ipowerweb.com, they had reasonable prices and good bandwidth and webspace allocations. The one, very important, thing they did not have was prompt and friendly customer service. I tried them out and before my 30-day trial period was up I decided I needed to change.
I first heard of IH on the MovableType forums. There was a fairly long thread there because someone was looking for a MT friendly host. I followed the links to all of them and narrowed the field down to four: Insider Hosting, DreamHost, Blogomania, and one other I can't remember. They all had similar pricing and features. So I decided the final test would be "response time."
I found the contact addresses for each and sent them all a pre-sales question by email. Two of them responded imeadiately with a "we got your message, we will contact you within 24 hours" type message. One of them replied the next day.
The winner, Insider Hosting of course, replied via live person (it was Steve) in less than 15 minutes. All my questions were answered promptly, courteously, and professionally. Steve and I had a full email conversation and I had chosen my new host before either of the other two contacted me live.
I hope IH is around for a long, long time - they would be almost impossible to replace!
Oh yeah, the servers are very fast and very reliable too. :)
