View Full Version : Tracking Visitors
I was wondering what folks here recommend as a script for tracking visitors to their respective websites? I've seen a few programs recommended on boards like sitepoint.com but don't want anything too complicated.
I basically want to see how many visits, who visited, where they came from (referred link), and what pages they accessed while on the site. I was using www.powerlogger.org which uses javascript, however, they are frequently down and lose data.

Eric, I really recommend www.sitemeter.com , as they provide great statistical reporting. It even has the ability to tell you how long they have been on the site, what page they currently are on, etc..
A less featured program is www.webtrendslive.com

Why not use webalizer and analog stats? Both are built into cPanel as well as offer I believe the majority if not all of what you wish.
Thanks Charles and Steven :)
I will look into sitemeter and webtrends. I have some trouble making sense out of the analog and webalizer stats, however, I just logged into my Cpanel to and didn't notice AWstats before. They seem a bit easier to read.

You also might want to consider www.stats4all.com they provide a good service free. All you have to do is install a small circle icon at the bottom of the page and u don't really have to worry about installing scripts and the asssociated log files that come with them. Provides a nice clean interface. Only thing I don't like is that it tends to slow down the loading of the page.

i wrote a script that logs the referers, logs it into a MySQL table, and displays the top 5.. (top 10, whatever, you set the number)
and if a referer doesn't get any hits in after x days (you set the number of days), it removes it from the list, so as to not clutter it up..
i'll probably have it cleaned up for the public soon, but if you want it before then, just contact me

Harmonic....I would be interested in that..... :D
Also, my main site PCToolBin (http://pctoolbin.com) uses a built in "stats" system. It's a PHP portal system called XOOPS (http://www.xoops.org) for those of you wanting a "portal system"........the stats portion of it uses SQL to record referrer information which you can break down by day, week, month.....
